When Ozempic Must Not Be Used

Ozempic should not be used if you are allergic to semaglutide or any of the other ingredients in the medicine. Signs of an allergic reaction can include swelling, rash, itching, or difficulty breathing.

Ozempic is not suitable for people with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis. It is designed specifically for adults with type 2 diabetes.

Ozempic is not recommended for anyone who has personally had, or has a family history of, medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), a rare form of thyroid cancer. Ozempic is also not recommended for people with a condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

If you are unsure whether this applies to you, speak with your healthcare provider before starting treatment. Ozempic may not be suitable if any of the above applies to you, and another type of treatment may be recommended.

Can Ozempic Be Used During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding?

Ozempic is not recommended during pregnancy. If you become pregnant while using Ozempic, or are planning to become pregnant, contact your healthcare provider promptly to reassess your treatment.

It is not known whether semaglutide passes into breast milk. Because of this, Ozempic is generally not recommended while breastfeeding. Your healthcare provider can discuss alternative options if needed.

Is Ozempic Suitable for Children and Adolescents?

Ozempic is not approved for use in children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
